Prototype circuits and create your hand-sewn design with lights. The workshop with Tenaya of Rogue Making will involve sewing a few lights onto a patch of fabric, so you can get the hang of it. Later, personalize your costumes with wearable tech to shine brightly at night! Not a sewer? Still please join us, first we will make the circuits with wires, then we'll take time to hand sew two threads to a fabric patch. You can also take your materials home to sew later!

Four Leaves and a Calyx

Leaves are vital to the over all look of a ribbon flower creation. This class is devoted to making ribbon leaves: the chorus of the opera. Participants will learn four different leaves and their variations using satin ribbon and wired ribbon (supplied). And then they will transform one of the leaves into a calyx with a stem. Please bring a basic sewing kit including craft scissors (not the nice fabric scissors), thread and needle, a 6-12” ruler, and tweezers or pliers. Age 16+

Until the invention of the envelope machine in 1876, letters were sealed with wax. An elegantly folded paper with a wax seal were the sign of a genteel person. Small boxes were always useful to hold items or for selling. We will use standard printer paper, recycled magazines, and Japanese paper to create the foundation for your missive, whether mysterious or amorous, and small boxes to adorn your live.My workshops are open to all, but if you have someone that needs more than adult teaching, please provide them with an assistant.

Rapid prototype this small motor circuit, then experiment with tiny materials provided to create a tiny robot, bumble bee or underwater explorer theme! Make the robot move around on the table, add or remove materials to change how it moves. Tenaya of Rogue Making brings the coolest materials to create little robots that interact and battle on the table-top. This year, take home a 2nd motor circuit (included) to create a 2nd robot at home with your own upcycled household finds. Age 7+

Bind your very own pocket sized Adventure Journal and start recording all of the wonders you encounter. Learn how to hand sew a multi-signature text block with ribbon tapes and soft cover. Also, learn what all of that means, so you can impress people as you show them around your library. Requires using sharp tools like an awl, needle, and scissors, so children need adult supervision.
